SkySweep™ - Nexrad Comparison
Below is a resolution comparison of radar images taken on May 9, 2003 during the tornadic supercell event across western and central Oklahoma. This storm produced multiple hook echoes and passed directly over Oklahoma City. There are several considerations which must be taken into account when viewing these data sets. The first is the fact that a NEXRAD image update is only available about every 5 minutes. Although SKYSWEEP TM records data in real time, the images presented are ones which match a NEXRAD update in respect to storm position. As you will see the difference in resolution is quite apparent. By harnessing the full potential of the C band unit, SKYSWEEP™ allows the user to overcome limitations found in other display systems on the market today. The result is a system which can captivate viewers while giving meteorologists the tools required to effectively disseminate storm information.
Please note these are from 2003 and there has been significant improvements in SkySweep™, such as high resolution topographical backgrounds and street level mapping.
